Today I got lost driving home from Ben's work. I made two mistakes.
1. I had my cell phone in my purse, locked in the trunk.
2. I listened to my GPS.
The first mistake prevented me from calling Ben for some directional help.
The second mistake took me from dead end to dead end up 90 degree hills.
After twenty minutes of recalculating, I finally turned off the GPS and figured out my way home.
This experience was quite coincidental, because the first week we were in Tijuana, we got lost in almost the same place. Almost two years later, I had the confidence that I could find my way home, if I could find a main road. I didn't feel completely lost, just frustrated that I wasn't where I wanted to be.
I have totally changed the way I see Tijuana-- it used to be unknown and intimidating. Now, it is home.
I really look forward to making Colombo our new home. I can't wait to drive home from the airport, and see Colombo for the first time. It is one of my favorite things about moving to a new place.
Oh, and I hate GPS. (Except when I love it.)

Well said! A new country does start out as intimidating...and ends as home. My very favorite moment is when we are coming to the new home from the airport & we've started turning down the neighborhood streets that lead to our new home...knowing that I will learn that path by heart very quickly. And also knowing that in a few years when we leave I'll be sad to go down that road for the last time.
When do you move to Colombo? Home leave in between or straight there? Enjoy your last bit of time in Tijuana!

Aren't you proud of yourself! I would be! I'm sure it gives you confidence as you head into the next assignment.
