Goodbye Old Friend.

Tonight we bid farewell to our good friend - our couch.  In human years, I am pretty sure that this couch is at least 110 years old.  It has been through it all.  We received the couch when we were first married and didn't have (and couldn't afford) a new couch.  The family that gave it to us had it for several years before they gave it to us.  We were going to buy a new one awhile ago, but we thought, if we are going to be moving, we don't want to put a new couch in storage for several years.  So we hung on.  We bought a couch cover to try to make it better, but it was still an old couch.  Every other week when we sat down, a spring would break, or something would start sticking out.  The couch has seen better days.  We love this couch, (and the amazing people that gave it to us) and we are at peace with our decision to send it the way of the landfill.  To give it away would just be prolonging its pain.  It's better this way.

Good bye old friend.  Thanks for the memories.

This post makes me giggle....While we were in NJ we decided to trash our old couch from when we first got married. It was super comfy, but ugly and like yours, spent it's last few years under a slipcover. We also pitched Doug's old recliner (which had been handed down from my dad long before we were married) AND a recliner that Doug's mom put with out stuff when the movers brought everything from IN to NJ. So in all, NJ claimed a couch and two recliners. Instead of the state slogan being the "Garden State" (which I never fully understood anyways) it should be the "Where Old Furniture Goes to Die State" haha

I love that couch - it used to be so comfortable to sleep on. I think I've slept on it in 3 different homes. Sad to say goodbye, but it's lived a good life.

Some things are definitely better to just let go! I am going to miss you, but will definitely keep in touch via blogs.

Okay so I obviously do not check your blog enough. Can't believe that couch is gone! It was the first couch we ever bought together! (Which make it 23 years old)We still have not officially replaced that couch - unbelievable.

Did you make sure there was no loose change before you tossed the couch? Did you get rid of the matching luuuuuv seat too?

Jodie,
If you check this, yes, checked for change. Yes, we kept the matching love seat for now. We had to have something to sit on. We are hoping that will be next.
