It's Not All Bad.

I love it here. There are so many things that I enjoy here, but here are a few.

I REALLY love driving here, it is a thrill. Things are crazy, roads aren't marked, and all stop signs are optional, but it's great. The good thing is the drivers here aren't mean, I have seen really bad road rage (particularly in DC), but here, it’s friendly. I like that.
I also LOVE the food. We have been to several taco stands, and a few restaurants and they are all amazing. The grocery store is awesome, the bakery, my favorite. They make fresh bread, and sell it warm out of the oven. Jack loves the bakery too; they make little Spiderman cakes that he asks for at least once a day. The produce is amazing and fresh. Almost everything we need at the we can find at the grocery store. Anything we can't find, we just head into San Diego. Nice, huh?
The thing that I absolutely love the most is our church. It is all in Spanish, so I don't understand very much. However, a lot of the members of the congregation speak English, and have made us all feel so welcome. It is just awesome. Both Ben and I are super excited because we have been asked to work with the youth of the ward (Mormon talk for congregation). I am going to work with the 14 and 15 year old girls, and Ben is going to be working with all the boys 12-18. What better way to get to know Mexico and Tijuana than working with the youth? We are both excited, and can't wait to get to know the young people more. The only thing I am worried about-Spanish. I think I might be second language inept. I am trying, and everyone is extremely patient, but it is not going well.
I really love being here in Tijuana. I would love it even if I couldn’t go to San Diego. The people are so nice, we have most of the conveniences of home, and the weather is just amazing. Oh, and we have a spectacular home. I am really grateful to be here.

how wonderful!! I loved reading this. I love Mexico and figure a border post is likely for us so it's great to hear that you like Tijuana for itself, not bec of its proximity to the US. How great that you have found church you feel connected to already! Take care.

hi Emily, I was thinking about your post yesterday. Can you tell me anything about your housing- eg are you in a gated community, are your neighbors expats or Mexican, have you been able to meet any of them? I know you may not want to get detailed on your blog, if you feel like it feel free to em me directly. Oh I just realized it's Easter (we are Jewish)- have a wonderful holiday. best, Bridget

Just heard about the earthquake! Hope you guys are okay and that all is well there for you!

James looked it up on a map - we read initial reports that the intensity for you was a 5?

Hope you all are okay.

Prayers for you...

I'm glad that you are all starting to feel at home in Mex. How awesome that you are getting a chance to work with the youth at church. You will both be just great. And you have quite awhile to learn the language. Don't worry, you'll get it!
