Reality.

This week, two families we know from church were carjacked at gunpoint. It came as a shock to me. It probably shouldn't have, but it did. It has made me think about how I would handle a gun in my face, with people yelling at me in a language I don't fully understand, trying to take my car. Would I try to drive off? If I couldn't drive off, how would I explain I the need to get the kids out of their car seats first? What if they wouldn't let me take my phone? How would I get a hold of Ben? I have hundreds of questions and hypothetical situations in my head. I won't bore you with all of them.
Even though the reality is we live in an area known for violence and crime, sometimes we (I) get a little lazy. It is the reality, and it is good to remember where we live. We (I) have to be careful, but we also have to live our lives. Finding the balance of that is the challenge.

oh no. How scary. Please tell me the embassy has given you instructions on how to handle. And I hate to say it, but you should probably learn and practice "I'll give you the car, just let me get my children out". The important thing is that you and your loved ones come out safe, forget about the material possessions. please take care.

This is one of the many reasons I keep you guys in my prayers. Hopefully being very careful and wise with where you go and when you go certain places will help keep you safe.
